ORLI ZIV – Jerusalem Obsession

from November 2, 2025 to January 28, 2026

The Jerusalem Obsession series is a living body of work that continually expands and evolves with each exhibition—an ever-shifting manifesto of concrete and immaterial worlds, perpetually in the making. This evolving oeuvre unfolds and transforms into various opuses, all rooted in Ziv’s amorous obsession with the universal Jerusalem. The work and the artist merge and blur into one another, ultimately forming a single haunting ode. This work is the story of a life: it is Jerusalem Obsession.

The exhibition “A SONG OF MUTE AND TUMULT” offers a glimpse into this series by revealing the paradoxical nature of Ziv’s work. The artist composes a melody in which emotions, oxymorons, and contradictions interlace. While her intuitive, dream-driven approach offers the viewer a tumultuous vision of reality, Ziv also plays with the gentle, slow rhythms of introspection and intimacy. The exhibition thus constructs an immersive journey through Ziv’s universe: from an exterior world of turbulence rendered in warm and dark tones, one descends into a sheltered bubble with the air of an oasis. This amniotic interlude is the studio—the creation space where time is suspended. Through this invitation to contemplation, the Ava Kleijman Gallery momentarily lifts part of the veil in order to better grasp the complexities of Orli Ziv’s artistic approach.

AND SUDDENLY, COLOR FADED AWAY

Ava Kleijman Gallery presents a new solo show by the artist Orli ZIV:

AND SUDDENLY, COLOR FADED AWAY
From April 4 to July 6, 2025

For this opus, Orli Ziv focuses on blacks and greys, stepping outside her usual formats in order to express the fragmentation of her dreamlike world. This episode, along with its accompanying exhibition, is conceived as an achromatic journey beginning in deep black, passing through grey, and ending on a white panel—a page of ashes waiting to be rewritten…

JERUSALEM OBSESSION settles rue de Seine
5 rue Jacques Callot 75006

The Ava Kleijman Gallery is delighted to exhibit the newest episode of the series “JERUSALEM OBSESSION”. On that occasion, the gallery is settling rue de Seine for two months and will be exhibiting Orli Ziv’s new artworks in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés.

Orli Ziv’s painting oscillates between pictorialism and raw abstraction. Her precise linework technique and her vigorous and spontaneous brushwork blend to shape the score of an euphoric yet peaceful dance. Marked by a deep reflection on the value of gesture, her artwork is characterized by its light, its movement, and its lyricism. Her vibrant color palette favors texture over motifs. Using pigments, oil, gold or silver leaves applied with a palette knife, Ziv unfolds a shimmering universe suspended between heaven and earth on her canvases.

Orli Ziv settled in Jerusalem in 1990. Like the psalmist, she designs each of her paintings as an obsessive serenade to this fascinating city. Her inner world is nurtured by her memories of Jerusalem’s narrow streets and majestic doors, of the unique color coming from its stones and forming a halo around its surroundings. She puts these pieces back together in dreamlike meanders. Orli Ziv’s poetical riddles thus sublimate the universal and transgenerational memories that built this antic city over the centuries. Doing so, she unveils the magic of Jerusalem while making the viewer a part of its limitless joy. However, the happiness radiating from her art does not make it less dignified, as well as its clean linework never overshadows the aura of mystery surrounding the eternal city.
